The Smokies from near Taig an Drama Day 7 - San Francisco
October 25, 2019
Friday evening, San Francisco, CA

In my Thu evening post, I left out some details from Thu night. Jr has a niece living in San Fran - Bobby Brockway. After checking into our motel, we picked her up and headed to the House of Nanking in Chinatown. Here we dined on pot stickers, stuffed mushrooms and bao bing wrap (a beef dish served with thin rice flour pancakes).

We met Bobby the next morning as she had volunteered to take the day off to serve as our guide. We started with breakfast at the Devil's Teeth Baking Company. I had an excellent sandwich of two scrambled eggs with pepper jack cheese, applewood smoked bacon, avocado, and lemon-garlic aioli on a homemade buttermilk biscuit. Yum yum.

From that point it was a full day of rubber necking. And in our convertible, we were pro rubber neckers.

We ate breakfast just across the street from the Noriega Produce. Green grocers were often found in ethnic neighborhoods. Looking down Clement street towards downtown San Fan. Congregation Emanu-El has served the Jewish community for 166 years. On the west side of the Marin Headlands we found this island populated with pelicans in Rodeo Lagoon. Bird Island - On this day we did not see any birds...but you could tell they had been there. You see the pelicans in the lower left corner. Me and Jr with Bird Island behind us and Rodeo Cove to the right. Jr and niece Bobby. The Point Bonitas Lighthouse, opened in 1855, in the morning mist. Me and Jr in our Mustang overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge and the city of San Fran from the Marin Headlands Vista. You can see Alcatraz Island just to the left of the leftmost bridge tower. (And some chick that crashed our photo!)(And thanks Lee for setting me straight on Alcatraz.) A closer look at Alcatraz in the far distance. Lunch today was wings (excellent), home fried chips and dip and some batter fried green beans with a garlic aioli. And a coffee stout for yours truly. A panoramic view of the Bay City from Twin Peaks high above the city. Looking down on downtown San Fran and the financial district from Twin Peaks. St. Ignatius Church from Twin Peaks. Mission San Francisco de Asís is the oldest surviving structure in San Fran. Just an interesting building that we passed. Also, note all of the overhead trolley wires. For some reason these fascinated Jr. A tree lined street in the Mission District near Petrero Hill. One of the many Murals in the Mission District. (I’m not sure what #11 is doing!!) Another Green Grocer - this one in the Mission District. Another mural in the Mission District. The First Unitarian Universal Church
