Ok, so a few weeks ago I posted a story about the UT Men’s basketball team reaching the No. 1 spot in the NCAA rankings.  Well, that lasted a whole week and they were knocked off.  Life is tough.

At the time the UT Women’s team was ranked No. 3.  Well, for those that don’t follow closely, on April 8, the Tennessee Lady Vols defeated the Stanford Cardinals 64-48 to claim the title as 2008 National NCAA Champs.

The Lady Vols earlier had knocked off perennial UT whipping dog Notre Dame74-64 and then looked somewhat lethargic in their wins over Texas A&M 53-45 and squeaker over LSU 47-46.  After trailing 0-3 in the championship game, the Lady Vols took a 4-3 lead and never looked back.  Primarily due to the dislocated shoulder suffered by team leader and All-American, Candace Parker, in the win over the Aggies and the less than stellar performance in the sneaker against LSU, the Lady Vols were pegged by many to lose the championship game.  However, they all underestimated the ability of head coach Pat Summit to motivate her players for their EIGHTH NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP.

Only the UCLA men’s team has more titles than the Lady Vols with 11.  Pat Summit’s program has bested the likes of Kentucky with 7 titles, Indiana with 5, N. Carolina with 4 and Kansas and Duke with 3 each.

Man, it’s great to be a UT Vol Fan!
