Our Arrival
As on my previous adventure we arrived early at the Glasgow International Airport and were met by Alex and master coachmen Barry Austin. Rather than proceeding to our hotel, we were treated to a morning at the Burrell Collection, described as "one of Europe's most beautiful museums...There is nowhere like this place." Established in 1944, the Collection of over 9000 objects was a gift to the City of Glasgow by Sir William Burrell and his wife, Lady Constance. Born in 1862, Sir William was a lifelong Glaswegian. He acquired his first painting at age 15 and continued for over 75 years. A respected collector of late European Gothic and early Renaissance art, the Collection includes medieval stained glass, arms and armour and over 200 of the finest tapestries in the world. It also includes one of the most significant holdings of Chinese art in the UK.

We ended the day at the Holiday Inn City Center on the Sauchiehall St pedestrian mall. Entering Glasgow over the Clyde A Chinese Foo Dog at the Burrell Collection After our stop at the Burrell Collection, Barry ported us all to the Holiday Inn City Center for our first night. Along the way we passed the magnificent Glasgow Cathedral.
