The Beatonite Venture of '08
Return of the Beatonites '08
"Vide omnes fornicatores Scoti" - Gnaeus Julius Agricola to Tacitus,
The Battle of Mons Braupius, 83 AD
In August I returned to the land of my forefathers, Scotland. Once again I traveled with my host, Alex Beaton, and
our faithful guide, Barry Austin, aboard his most excellent luxury coach. And again my dear daughter, Amy, was
my traveling companion.
On this journey, I traveled to the northern reaches with my good friend, Sharon Campbell, to the Islands of Orkney.
I realize that traveling in the company of a Campbell in the heart of Jacobite country could be hazardous, but it
was a risk I was willing to take for the excellent company.
And so I returned once again for a charmed visit to the land of lochs and braes, of castles and bagpipes and
beasties and "those women from Hell". And, as before, I share the experience with you, my friends.
So start here with our trip to the Orkney Isles.
