The Smokies from near Taig an Drama Day 3 - Forks to Tillamook
October 21, 2019
Monday evening, Tillamook, OR

Today started much like the previous day - overcast and rainy. After an adequate but unnoteworthy breakfast, we decided to make a side trip to the small seaside town of La Push. It is the largest town in the Quileute Indian Reservation. (If you are a fan of the Twilight books/movies, this name should familiar to you.) After leaving La Push, we proceeded about 260 miles down US101 to the town of Tillamook, OR, about 60 miles west of Portland. Unfortunately, the weather prevented me from getting more than just a few usable photos.

La Push, WA, is the home of the Quileute Tribal Council, another indigenous people of the northwest. Again, here are fishing boats that provides much of the towns income. This dock has seen some wear! Just offshore from La Push Again from La Push The entrance to the Quileute Cemetery (photo by Jr). So here’s a selfie somewhere along the west coast of WA south of Cape Flattery. (Perhaps you see why I don’t do selfies.) US101 is known for its many bridges. Most were built in the 20s and 30s. This is a small one. Now this is a bridge! This is the Astoria-Megler Bridge, designed by William Adair Bugge, a famous civil engineer with the Oregon DOT. It was constructed in the 60s and rises 196ft above the Columbia River. This is the south end of the Astoria-Megler Bridge. Due to the fog you couldn’t even see this end from the north shore.
